Holy stars! Second Grade!
Hi! My name is Ms. Samson and I'm so happy I get to be YOUR teacher this year! Can you believe it? You are about to start 2nd grade. Second grade! You know so much more than you did last August when you started 1st grade, and by the end of May next year? You are going to be even smarter than you already are!
I can't wait to see what learning adventures this year has in store for us. And I can't wait to get to know you and learn ALL about you! First, I want to tell you a little bit about me. I was born in Pennsylvania, but I grew up in Kentucky.
I went to college at Illinois State University. Before moving to Georgia, I taught in Yuma, Arizona. The school I worked at was 8 miles from Mexico and 3 miles from California! I love Mexico a lot--it's one of my favorite countries. (And si! Hablo espanol! Sometimes I have a hard time understanding Spanish, but I do my best!) I've been a teacher at Meadowcreek for 17 years! I've taught 1st grade, 3rd grade, and ESOL here. But my favorite thing to teach is 2nd grade. It is SO! Much! Fun! (I promise!)
I live in Duluth and I have a little girl named Melissa. Melissa is 6 and will be a 1st grader this year. She loves the shows Jessie and Liv and Maddie, gymnastics and karate, and she loves to sing and dance. I put some pictures of her, me, and Melissa's dad on the Pictures page here on the website--scroll all the way down to see them. I miss Melissa a lot when I'm at school, so I love to get hugs from my students or big smiles!
I was so happy to see your name on my class list this year! We've got a lot of work to do, and I think you're just the person to do it. I can't wait for Wednesday to get here so we can get to know each other better. This is going to be a GREAT school year. Welcome to 2nd grade, Super Star!
Love,
Ms. Samson

Oh, P.S.! On the first day of school, I want to learn ALL about you! Here are some things about me you may be interested to know before school begins. Get ready to share your own favorites with me and your new 2nd grade friends!
Favorite Color: green (and blue! And purple!)
Favorite animal: dolphins (when I was a 2nd grader, I wanted to be a marine biologist when I grew up so I could work with dolphins!)
Favorite Candy: Anything minty, like Junior Mints, Peppermint Patties, or hard peppermints.
Favorite Food: pizza
Favorite fast food: Chic-Fil-A
Favorite song: Take Me To Church by Hozier
Favorite Movie: Wizard of Oz
Favorite Book: Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie (But I have a LOT of other favorites, too! Like all the Jack and Annie mysteries, books by Roald Dahl, and I love any picture book with a good story and interesting pictures!)
Favorite Flower: Would you believe dandelions? I love dandelions! (If you remember, ask me to tell you the story of how I came to love dandelions the best.) My 2nd favorite flowers are daisies.
Favorite hobby: I love to read books and write short stories. If I could be anything other than a teacher, I'd be a writer!
Favorite super star: I love Dr. Neil Degrasse Tyson. He's a famous astrophysicist--that's a scientist who studies Outer Space. He's also super smart, and he likes teaching Science in a way that helps people understand it.
